"I am eternally grateful for my family’s support throughout the three years of my law school journey. I could not have completed it without you guys!!"

“Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly – they’ll go through anything. You read, and you’re pierced.”

― Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

"Huxley warns of the power words have over the minds of men. Words can cause chaos, spread lies, and deceive. However, words also spread poetry, declare truth, and create hope. Law is the power of words compelling men's actions. LMU has taught me that my words matter. I hope I can do good with them.

I want to take a moment to thank a few people in my life for endlessly encouraging me during my law school journey. First, I would like to thank my father. Although we disagree on most things, you do your best to keep me sharp and encourage me to be open to what others have to say. To my mother. Your love, kindness, and encouragement have given me strength over the last three years. I appreciate you always checking up on me, I always loved that even though I never really expressed it. To my brothers. Foster, Ander, and Shepard. We are the next generation of our family, and I am proud to be your oldest brother. I have watched all of you grow and develop into great guys. I hope in the years following, we will grow closer together, and I get to support all of you in your dreams. To Lauren, my girlfriend. You have always been a source of encouragement and someone to speak to about how painful school can be. I have never met anyone who can both love me so much and be mean to me simultaneously. You have also turned me into a Vols fan. I am lucky, but I will never forgive you for that. To the rest of my family. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We are a very diverse family. We have different views on life and come from different backgrounds. I can’t imagine a better environment to grow up in. All of you have done your part, and I appreciate it with everything I am. Thank You."

James Pierce

"I would like to thank my parents, grandparents, my friends from back home, and the friends I've made here at LMU for all the support you've given me throughout the last few years. I would also like to thank Dean Reid and Dean Ayesh for being fantastic mentors and professors. I also want to thank Legal Aid of East Tennessee and the Public Defender's Offices from Knox County, Anderson County, and Cocke County for giving me the opportunity to gain experience and help out people in need.
Finally, I want to give a special shout out to my wife, Marissa, for always being there for me every step of the way. I wouldn't be the man I am today without you.

After taking the July bar exam in Kentucky, I will be working for the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy as a public defender at the trial office in Murray."
