“One day, I suddenly woke up living my dream. Though getting my JD has been the most challenging time in my life, it has also been the most rewarding. I could not be where I am-- about the take the next step in my career-- without the support and generosity of three amazing examples of powerful women in the law. First, the Honorable Suzanne Bauknight hired me for my first legal job. There, in chambers, I found her law clerk Shanna Veach. The two of them were the first to truly make me believe that my dream could become a reality—that I could be everything I want, even if I felt like I was years late. I am a better writer, and a better person, for the time I spent working for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
Second, I do not believe that I would be able to accomplish all of my academic projects, research, and co-curricular endeavors without the encouragement and support from Dean Melanie Reid. Dean Reid uses our mentor/mentee relationship to constantly remind me to remain confident in my abilities, trusting in the journey, and open to new experiences. Dean Reid makes me believe I have what it takes to be a great attorney.
My parents, Lisa and Stan Jeter, continue to motivate me and cheer me on. I hope that everything I do makes them proud. My mother truly lives every up and down with me. I am not sorry I took us on this last ride.”
