“One of my most memorable moments was of course my first cold call on the first day of classes. In Civil Procedure, Dean Lyon asked me a relatively simple question. “Who was the plaintiff? Pennoyer or Neff?” That I got absolutely wrong. His response “Well no, but you had a 50-50 shot, and that’s okay.” From that day forward, he had put the fear of God in me to ensure that I thoroughly read the material for all classes. Although I was of course mortified when he called my name and I knew that I didn’t know what he was talking about, looking back I really did appreciate it because without him having done that, I wouldn’t have learned how much time and effort to put into preparing for class. I think it helped me to ensure I started and finished my law school career off strong. I guess I really say all of that to say — thank you for your support and constant effort to help me and my classmates be the best lawyers that we can be. Of course, I also have to thank my family and my girlfriend of 6 years — without their support, I would not have made it this far, and my study group because “We did it!”
